The Survey Crew Chief is responsible for leading a survey crew and overseeing the execution of field surveying activities. This individual will ensure accurate and timely completion of projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead a crew in conducting various types of surveys, including boundary, topographical, construction, and environmental surveys.
Calculate points with grades for stakeout from plan data.
Read and understand deeds, plats, right of way plans and construction plans and documents.
Assign tasks and responsibilities to crew members so work is distributed efficiently and effectively.
Provide guidance and technical expertise to crew members, resolving issues that arise during operations.
Set up control points, establish control networks, and measure distances, angles, and elevations to determine land boundaries and topographic features.
Prepare and review survey notes, sketches, and reports to verify accuracy and completeness of survey data.
Ensure compliance with surveying standards, regulations, and specifications.
Manage the inventory of surveying equipment so it is properly maintained, serviced, and accounted for.
Address client concerns. Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of surveying techniques, equipment, and software, and of construction methods, equipment, and materials.
Proficiency with survey instruments and survey data processing software.
Excellent oral and written communication and customer service skills.
Strong leadership, problem solving, and decision making skills.
Ability to work with a high level of accuracy, with minimal to moderate supervision, and to organize and prioritize multiple assignments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED required. Additional education in surveying or a related field preferred.
Minimum of three years of experience on a survey crew required.
ADDITIONAL
Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record and pass a criminal background check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Duties are performed primarily outdoors with exposure to changing weather conditions. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity, walk uneven surfaces in construction work zones, bend frequently at knees and waist, and work in a loud, active construction environment. Must be able to exchange accurate information with coworkers and clients.
